An epic day.

This Colorado Rocky Mountain adventure elopement was a DREAM. Our couple, Justine + Joey picked an epic location for their ceremony, and hung out at a romantic, cozy cabin during the day. They brought along their two adorable pups, and we went on a few awesome adventures throughout the day. They also hired our favorite private chefs, Forage Sisters, to keep the incredible food flowing all day long and provide beautiful florals.

Justine + Joey spent the day and night at Puente Cabin, which sits at 11,500 feet and in the mountains surrounding Ouray. It is definitely suggested to have 4×4 to reach this cabin, and once you are there you are truly off grid and on a secluded getaway. This cabin is surrounded by massive peaks and rolling fields of wildflowers. Forage Sisters decorated the cabin with local wildflowers that they grow (yay for a great LNT/eco-friendly option), and created stunning table settings for the various meals throughout the day.

After a day of adventure, we took a rough road to an epic alpine view for their ceremony. Check it out!

breakfast to start, of course!

Justine got ready in Crested Butte before making the drive over to the cabin. When she arrived, they had breakfast outside (how could you not with that view?), and also unboxed their Ketubah purchased from an artist. They had multiple platters of various charcuterie boards and refreshing drinks to fuel up for an awesome day.

An Afternoon Adventure

After breakfast, it was time for a hike! This hike was right by the cabin, so we were able to have an awesome time right in the back yard. The weather was absolutely gorgeous, and Justine + Joey embodied their own “Sound Of Music” with their pups and the stunning landscape.

After our waterfall hike, we returned to the cabin for a bit of archery before they got ready for dinner and their ceremony. We love incorporating different activities into an adventure elopement. We love to kayak, boulder, stargaze, and hike more than anything, but we are down for all kinds of activities– especially if they include your pups.

bring on the excitement

I loved that Justine + Joey didn’t see each other while they were getting ready. This allowed them to have such a meaningful first look together. They took turns getting ready in the cabin, and had so many fine details incorporated into their attire. This cabin created such an intimate setting while they prepared to have one of the biggest evenings of their life. The mountains, the large windows, the bridge… SWOON!

here’s where it really gets good.

Let me tell you, this evening was EPIC. Forage Sisters set up the most gorgeous outdoor dinner where Justine + Joey were surrounded by epic views and a jaw dropping setting. These chefs are at the top of our vendor referral list, and if you haven’t gathered why by now, you will definitely see why here. Go ahead and drool over this dinner, it’s okay.

They started with tomato bisque soup, followed by a red beet gnocchi with brown butter and herbs, chevre, fennel pork sausage, and caramelized onion bechamel. As if that wasn’t enough, they followed it with grilled balsamic marinated beef tenderloin with romesco, smashed potatoes with parsley butter (the best, they cooked these for us at our wedding), and grilled summer veggies.

Forage Sisters make sure that everything is ethically sourced. They grow all of their produce and raise their meat at their own Deer Tree Farm. Everything is locally and ethically grown, and following your dinner, they take all of the scraps to compost or feed to their pigs. I don’t know how loud I can scream it, but these are our kinds of people.

A freaking awesome wednesday.

This. Ceremony. Was. Gorgeous. I am always stunned by nature and epic sunsets, and this night was no different. We took a 4×4 road to get to the top of the pass, and we went to a secluded spot above 13,000 ft where they could say, “I do”. The colors casting over the massive peaks were absolutely jaw dropping. Justine + Joey wrote their own vows, and also included a traditional Jewish glass breaking into their ceremony. Their love is just as beautiful as the mountains behind them, and their pups were just as happy as we were about their paw-ents getting married!

A sunset to top all sunsets

The glow of the sunset was easily one of the best I have ever seen (and we have seen some pretty epic sunsets). Justine + Joey danced and celebrated together as a newly married couple on the top of a mountain. Seriously, what more could you ask for? We are obsessed with what God, Mother Nature, the universe (whatever serves you) had to offer to top off a truly wonderful day. Is this why we love the Colorado Rockies and adventure elopements? Absolutely.

seal it with a kiss, some cake, and the milky way.

After the ceremony, we ventured back (which was a little wild driving on a 4×4 cliffside road in the dark) so that Justine + Joey could sign their marriage license (and their pups could too!), share some cake, and close out the day watching the Perseids Meteor Shower. In Colorado, you don’t need an officiant to get married. The state is self-solemnizing, and that also means that your pups can be your witness!

We didn’t see too many meteors, but the Milky Way was out in allllll of her glory. We loved finishing off an awesome day under the stars surrounded by cool, crisp air and massive mountains.

The great thing about adventure elopements is that they can be whatever you want them to be. Whether you are eloping in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, on a cliff in Yosemite, on the beach in Oregon, or in the backcountry of Washington, you can create a day that speaks to who you are as a couple, and make choices that intentionally represent your love. We chase wild love stories and intentional couples all over the world, so let’s capture your love journey.
