Ally + Darrell decided that a traditional wedding just wasn’t their style, so they opted for a Caribbean cruise destination wedding! They celebrated with an intimate number of family and friends on a cruise docking in Ocho Rios, Jamaica; Grand Cayman, the Cayman Islands; and Cozumel, Mexico. I think it’s safe to say that it didn’t take a lot of convincing for us to go on this adventure with them.
Ally is a real estate agent based out of Fort Mill, SC. When she reached out to me, I could tell she had a “work hard, play hard” mindset. I vibed with her “excited for life” personality right away, and I was so excited to get to capture such an epic adventure for her and Darrell. I met the two of them in South End, Charlotte to capture their colorful engagement photos.
Ally + Darrell chose to get married on October 15th, 2019 while the ship was docked in Ocho Rios. They had a gorgeous suite with an exterior deck to spend the week in, and that is where Ally got ready. The weather was absolutely perfect, and everyone was excited for a Caribbean wedding!
Ally and Darrell got ready in separate locations so that the first time he would see her would be when she walked down the aisle. They were both surrounded by family and friends while they got ready. What a view to brush off those pre-wedding nerves!
The cruise ship had most of their events coordinated for them. They got married in one of the many event rooms, and then moved to another room for their reception. The cruise ship provided catering, a DJ, and a cake. It was so wonderful that everyone had already been on board relaxing for a few days by the time we got to their wedding date. This really allowed everyone to unplug from society and truly enjoy being present with each other. I felt like Ally’s planning was really intentional, and this unity was an awesome perk of having a destination wedding.
Ally + Darrell got to enjoy the rest of their cruise vacation as a newly married couple! I definitely think that hanging out in the Caribbean with your loved ones is an awesome way to enjoy being husband + wife.
Michael and I also went on an epic adventure after the wedding. The ship had a ton to offer, from nightly shows to tucked away lounge chairs overlooking the ocean. At port, we went on a snorkeling adventure and explored a shipwreck. Then, we participated in a rum tasting in the Caymans (a very budget friendly way to drink compared to the more touristy options) at Cayman Spirits Co., and got to sample a rum that was aged at the bottom of the ocean. The waves continuously agitate the rum while it is anchored in barrels 42 ft. deep.
We also ate tacos with our toes in the sand in Playa Del Carmen (a short ferry ride from Cozumel), and I lost our adventure camera in the ocean (bye bye epic snorkeling footage). I had to leave the cruise early to make it home for a wedding, so I stayed the night in Cancun, and then flew out the following afternoon. I found an epic hostel with a rooftop pool and restaurant for only $7/night. Michael enjoyed free food and more shows on the cruise as he voyaged back to Miami. Overall, epic adventure.
Back in the states, Ally + Darrell decided to have a large reception at Dust Off Brewing Co. in Rock Hill, SC. They were able to rent out the brewery for the evening, and they even named a few beers after themselves! This reception at a later date gave them an opportunity to celebrate with all of their family and friends!
They had a grand entrance after all of their guests had arrived. Before that, we snuck out back to have a quick session with just the two of them– as HUSBAND + WIFE! It was so exciting to see them again, and to get to celebrate with them one more time.
After their quick session, it was time to party! The night was filled with wonderful celebrations, happy tears, and lots of laughter. We had an awesome time celebrating with Ally + Darrell, and getting to capture their epic love story. We love our couples and are so happy to go along wherever their love story takes us, whether that’s a mountaintop elopement or another Caribbean cruise destination wedding!

I think that’s the first cruise wedding gallery I’ve ever seen and I’m smitten! Looks like such a fun way to get married with so many places to see!
OMG what a dream photoshoot! Caribbean cruise!!! And the cute couple are shining on every photo!
I had to comment on this one. The idea of having your big day on the Caribbean is literally a dream!! I love the way you captured these. They must be thrilled!
How fun! We had a destination ourselves and the funnest part was spending an entire week with our friends and family from so many different walks of life! A cruise would be such a good way to do that!!
What a gorgeous couple and sweet wedding story! I love how you can feel her joy and excitement!! Beautiful work, you captured their celebration so well!
How fun! I love the juxtaposition of the cruise wedding and modern, industrial type reception. They are gorgeous and you captured their love beautifully.
This looks liks the most fun wedding and you captured the day beautifully! The mix of images from the city after the cruise are so fun as well! Lovely work!
